What Makes Girls’ Underwear Different

Girls’ underwear requires different pattern engineering than unisex or boys’ styles. The female child’s body has a wider hip-to-waist ratio that develops through childhood. Girls’ patterns account for this from size 100 upward, with three key differences:

Hip panel geometry. The side seam on girls’ briefs is angled outward at the hip and curves inward at the leg opening — not straight up and down like a boys’ brief. This prevents the garment from riding up during movement.

Rise height. Girls’ underwear uses a mid-to-high rise (14-18 cm depending on size) for full coverage. The front panel is slightly taller than boys’ to accommodate the developing body shape without compression.

Elastic tension. The waist and leg elastic on girls’ styles is approximately 15% looser than the equivalent boys’ size. This prevents marks on the skin while maintaining enough grip to keep the garment in place. Elastic is encased in a soft fabric channel — never direct-to-skin.

Fabric selection is critical for girls’ underwear. The skin on children is thinner and more absorbent than adult skin, making fabric choice directly impact comfort and health.

All fabrics are tested for pH (4.0-7.5), formaldehyde (under 20 mg/kg), and azo-free dyes before cutting. We can dye to any Pantone color.

Key Construction Features

The difference between a comfortable girls’ underwear and one that causes irritation often comes down to three construction details:

Gusset depth and fabric. Girls’ gussets are 2-3 cm deeper than unisex equivalents at the same size. The gusset lining is always 100% cotton, even when the body fabric is a blend. This ensures the most sensitive area contacts only natural fiber.

Label placement. For sizes 100-130, we recommend tagless (direct-print) labels on the back waistband. For sizes 140-150 where woven labels are desired, they are sewn into the center back seam with the rough side facing outward, never touching the skin.

Flat-seam or covered-seam construction. Overlock seams are standard for cost efficiency. Flat-seam (mock safety stitch) is available as an upgrade for sizes 100-120 where skin sensitivity is highest. Covered-seam (binding) is available for leg openings on premium styles.

• REACH compliance — EU-bound orders are managed for restricted substances under EU REACH regulations.
• Third-party testing — SGS, TÜV SÜD, or Intertek can be named on the inspection report for your order.

We do not claim OEKO-TEX Standard 100 (in progress), GOTS, or other eco-certifications for our factory — compliance is verified through independent third-party labs.
