Quick Answer
What is a baby clothing manufacturer? A baby clothing manufacturer produces bodysuits, sleepsuits, rompers, bibs, and accessories for infants from newborn to 24 months. Baby garments require different standards than children’s wear — envelope necklines (no pulling over the head), snap crotch fastenings for easy diaper changes, flat seams that do not rub against delicate skin, and interlock cotton that is smooth on both sides.

Fabric Guide for Baby Garments
Baby skin is 20-30% thinner than adult skin and more permeable. Fabric choice has a direct impact on the baby’s comfort and safety.
| Fabric | Composition | Weight | Best For | Why For Baby |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cotton interlock | 100% cotton | 180 gsm | Bodysuits, sleepsuits, vests | Smooth on both sides — no wrong-side texture against skin |
| Cotton jersey | 100% combed cotton | 160 gsm | Rompers, pants, swaddles | Lightweight, breathable, pre-shrunk |
| Cotton-spandex jersey | 95% / 5% | 180 gsm | Stretchy bodysuits, leggings | Stretch recovery, no sagging at snap points |
| Bamboo viscose-spandex | 95% / 5% | 160 gsm | Luxury sleepsuits, sensitive skin | Naturally antibacterial, thermoregulating |
| Cotton muslin | 100% cotton gauze | 130 gsm | Swaddles, summerwear | Multi-layer weave = breathable + warm |

Key Safety Features for Baby Garments
Baby clothing requires specific design and construction features that differ from all other children’s wear. These are not optional — they affect both safety certification and real-world usability.
Envelope neckline. The shoulder opening overlaps (one side wider than the other) so the garment opens fully at the neck — no pulling over the baby’s head. The overlap is secured with one snap button so it does not gap during wear. This is required for all bodysuits and vests up to size 80.
Snap crotch fastening. Two or three snap buttons at the center front crotch. The snaps are nickel-free brass, tested for secure closure (minimum 10N opening force) to prevent the baby from unfastening them and creating a choking hazard.
Flat seams throughout. All seams that contact the baby’s skin are flat-felled or covered-seam construction. Overlock seams are never used on interior surfaces — they create a raised ridge that can cause friction against delicate skin.
Inverted zip guard. Sleepsuits with zippers include a fabric guard behind the zipper chain and a fabric flap at the top of the zipper track to prevent chin contact. The zipper pull is a minimum 20mm to prevent the baby from mouthing it.
Small parts testing. All snap buttons, rivets, and decorative elements are tested to 16 CFR Part 1501 (small parts) and ASTM F963. Buttons below 31.7mm diameter are not used on garments below size 80.
