A tech pack is the single document that turns a design idea into a manufacturable product. For kids’ underwear and sleepwear, it does double duty: it tells the factory exactly how to build the garment and confirms the piece meets skin-contact safety rules. Get it right and your sampling round shrinks from “three tries” to “one and done.”
This guide gives private-label and OEM buyers a ready structure you can copy for your next children’s line.

What a Tech Pack Actually Is
Think of it as the blueprint. It travels from your design team to the factory’s pattern maker, merchandiser, and QC inspector, so everyone builds the same thing. A complete kids’ apparel tech pack has seven sections.
1. Technical Flat Sketch

Front and back line drawings showing every seam, strap, and finish — not a mood photo. For training bras, mark the underband width and strap attachment. For sleepwear, show the neckline, cuff, and hem build. Black-and-white CAD flats are ideal; the factory will use them to draft the pattern.
2. Size Specification Table
List every measurement (chest, waist, length, strap length) for each size in your range. Children’s sizing needs growth room — a 10-year-old and a 12-year-old wear very different volumes, so do not reuse adult grading. Provide the size standard you follow (EU / US / Asian) so the factory grades correctly.
3. Materials & Fabric Specification

Name the exact fibre, weight (gsm), and any certification. Examples we see most:
- Combed cotton 160 gsm, GB 31701 Class A
- Bamboo viscose 150 gsm, moisture-wicking
- Brushed cotton or modal for sleepwear, soft-hand
Note: our eco-textile compliance is advancing through OEKO-TEX Standard 100 (In Progress), so specify if you need certified-content documentation.
4. Construction & Finishing Notes

This is where kids’ apparel diverges from adult. Call out:
- Seamless (boneless) construction where comfort matters.
- Tag-free labeling — printed care info, no woven tag.
- Flat-lock or overlock seam type, and any bonded joins.
- Elastic type and width at the underband or waist.
5. Labelling & Compliance
For the US and EU, skin-contact children’s garments need documented safety. Specify:
- CPC (Children’s Product Certificate) for the US market.
- GB 31701 Class A (Infant Grade A) as the safety baseline.
- Third-party verification by SGS, TÜV SÜD, or Intertek if required by your retailer.
- Care-label text and country of origin marking.
6. Colour & Print
Give Pantone references, not “light purple.” For prints (botanical, floral — both trending for 2026), supply the artwork file and confirm placement (all-over vs placement print). Small-batch dye lots are supported, so colour testing stays low-risk.
7. Packaging & Private Label

Define the neck tag, hangtag, and poly-bag spec. Many brands now request compostable bags; we produce them in-house. Clear packaging specs prevent a second sampling round just for the label.
Kids-Specific Notes Most Brands Miss
- Growth ease: add 1–2 cm ease versus the measured body, especially at waistbands.
- Skin safety overrides aesthetics: if a trim or print ink is not child-safe, swap it — do not skip the compliance step.
- Fewer SKUs, smarter tests: at a 100 pcs/style/colour MOQ you can validate one hero style before expanding the range.
What Nuohua Needs Before Quoting
Send the tech pack plus your target quantity and destination market. With those three inputs we return a quote, a realistic lead time (bulk 25–35 days after sample approval), and a sampling plan (7–10 days). No guessing, no back-and-forth.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a tech pack for a simple training bra?
Yes — even simple garments benefit from a one-page spec covering size, fabric, construction, and compliance. It is what keeps the first sample close to final.
Can Nuohua help me build the tech pack if I only have photos?
Yes. Send inspiration images and your size range; we turn them into a production-ready brief (see our guide on turning inspiration photos into a brief).
